New principal trumpet at RSNO

Jason Lewis, a former member of the National Youth Band of Wales has become the new associate principal trumpet at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has announced that Jason Lewis has been appointed as Associate Principal Trumpet. He will take up the post in May.

The former National Youth Brass Band of Wales player joins from the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, where he is currently Principal Trumpet.

Delighted

Born in Aberystwyth, the 28 year old went on to study trumpet at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with Principal Trumpet of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Philippe Schartz, before completing a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Speaking about the appointment, Jason said: "I'm delighted to be appointed to the RSNO, an orchestra I've admired for many years.

I consider it to be an honour to join a brass section with such an incredible reputation and very much look forward to performing with my esteemed colleagues."

In response, RSNO Principal Trumpet, Christopher Hart added: "Jason is a tremendously talented musician and I'm thrilled that he's decided to join us in the RSNO.

Jason Lewis officially joins the RSNO in May, but will join the orchestra in March for its first tour of the USA under recently appointed Music Director Thomas Sondergard.

Frome Town Band

April 25 • Frome Town Band seeks a new Musical Director. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled musician with experience of running ensembles and events, who has an enthusiasm for and a vision towards developing the organisation as a community resource.

April 24 • Exciting opertunity for a principal cornet player to lead our friendly band. We also would be excited to hear from percussionists with experience in tuned percussion and kit. We are currently in the Championship section and have a busy schedule in 2024.


CLEETHORPES BAND CIO

April 24 • We have lots of cornets and horns but a little thin in the bottom end. Our players are happy to move around to help new players join the band, if you play baritone, euph or bass please give us a try. We rehearse every Sunday and Thursday at 7.30pm
