Composer Philip Sparke will become only the third British musician to receive the prestigious International Award at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago next month.

First presented in 1992, it honours individuals who contribute to instrumental music education around the world, and sees Philip follow in the footsteps of composer Timothy Reynish and conductor and publisher Geoffrey Brand.

Amazing

Talking to 4BR Philip said: "This will be my 32nd consecutive visit to The Midwest Clinic and it is becoming more of an international event every year, attracting performers and delegates from all over the globe.

To be singled out for this award from the many who justly deserve it is simply amazing."

The Midwest Clinic showcases up to 28 one-hour showcase events — from seminars and presentations on a huge variety of educational and commercial topics to performances from world leading musicians.

So if like us you value a strong, independent perspective on the brass band world - then why not consider becoming a supporter and help make our future and that of a burgeoning brass band movement more secure.
