All systems go for Holme Valley contest

After a great social media response the 8th Annual Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble Competition will go ahead on Saturday 16th.

  A great social media response means its all systems go for the Holme Valley contest

Thanks to a great response it's all systems go for the 8th Annual Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble Competition on Saturday 16th to be held at Hade Edge Bandroom.

Thanks to a late surge of entries (helped by excellent social media coverage) there are more entries than last year, although there is still time for more to come in, especially in the youngest sections.

Important aspect

Organiser, Graham Bates told 4BR: "We feel these events are such an important aspect of developing individuals into confident and competent players, and so we're delighted that the event will carry on."

He added: "We will be chatting to people about possibly moving the 2019 event into the autumn to avoid exams and the summer concert schedule.

I'm just concerned about the lack of young players wishing to take part and benefit, and will be asking if this may be a step to increase participation".

November 17 • Freckleton Band have vacancies on Principal Cornet and Soprano Cornet, due to an upcoming retirement. The band will be promoted to the Championship section in 2019 and have a balanced concert and contest programme.


Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass

November 16 • Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass (3rd section) require a bass trombone, Eb bass, Euphonium (seat negotiable to the right player) and solo cornet player, but we welcome all players.


The Cobham Band

November 16 • Vacancies for Flugel, Baritone, Bass Trombone and Assistant Percussion exist in this friendly band. We have a good programme of band stand and concert engagements. The band contests in SCABA events and welcomes players of all standards and experience.
