Norfolk Wherry Brass Memorial Concert
Norfolk Wherry Brass is holding its 'First Annual Memorial Concert' to celebrate the life of David Cassady, one of its founder members.
Dave loved both playing brass band music and teaching the basics to young or old alike and was one of the mainstays of the Academy Band. On many occasions he would give one to one tuition to youngsters in their own home after school as well as teaching at the then Stalham Middle School during the lunch time, just to help them improve. Over several years he took the Middle School Brass Band that he had put together to perform at the Royal Norfolk Show and those performances were of a very high standard. Contesting was not one of Dave's favourite pastimes but he always took part including in the 4th section National Finals at Cheltenham Racecourse in 2012 where the band was crowned National Champions. Dave sadly lost his fight against cancer last December.
Lingwood Village Hall is the venue for this event on Sunday 21st July at 3.00pm. The band will consist of the current players plus several of Dave's friends who are former Norfolk Wherry Brass players or who played with Dave in other bands. It is anticipated that up to 40 musicians will take part. The programme for the afternoon will be made up of an enjoyable mix of popular music to suit all tastes.
This concert gives the band an opportunity to celebrate Dave's 14 years as a player with Norfolk Wherry Brass and to look towards the future. Places in our Academy band are always available for anyone who wants to learn or improve their playing and the main band, which has a few seats available, has a bright future ahead. Instruments are usually available. For more details visit the band website at www.norfolkwherrybrass.co.uk
Tickets for the event at £7.00, Concessions £1.00 (children free) will be available on the door. Refreshments including a bar will be available. Why not come along and join us as we prove that brass bands are not confined to marches and hymns — you will be pleasantly surprised.
