Introduction:
This weekend sees the magnificent Symphony Hall in Birmingham host
the 150th British Open Brass Band Championships and the Harry Mortimer
Centenary Celebration Concert.
Over two days, a hopefully full house should enjoy 19 of the best
bands in the UK performing a very fine set work – John McCabe’s,
“The Maunsell Forts” and some showboating performances
at the concert on the Sunday. The 150th Open promises to be a very
close run thing as there are sure to be a number of superb performances
of the test piece and the three judges (who ever they are) are sure
to have a stern test in finding the winners. What they would give
to adjudicate the Sunday concerts.
We’ve given our usual amount of pre contest coverage, which
we hope you have found interesting, annoying, boring… whatever
- at least we give more than the usual couple of pages you get elsewhere.
We’ll be there on the day as well and we hope to bring you
the usual coverage band by band as well as giving you the results
direct to your mobile phones as soon as they have left the lips
of the compere.
We’ll be doing coverage of the Harry Mortimer Concerts and
will bring you our usual post match analysis as soon as we get back.
All that and then we’re off to Torquay…..
