Third Section review:
Five of the bands that took part in the Preston Third Section Finals
make their way to Prestatyn to try and win the top prize, with the
National Champions Lancashire Life Morecombe very much the favourites
to make it a double. They were very good in Preston, although
they tended to overblow in places, but they had a very young team
of solo players and their confidence should be sky high.
Also with them are the bands that came 4th, 6th,
7th and 13th and it wont be a surprise
if all four of them come in the prizes. Langbaugh under Tim
Oldroyd deserved their placing in Preston and will be a force here,
whilst we were very impressed by Bream, who for us were the only
band to really try and play the dynamics at the Finals and who came
6th. Cantium have been a bit high profile of late and
also performed well, whilst Forresters Brass who came 13th
should also put up a good show.
Below that its hit and miss for us, but Rainford Silver and
Linda Nicholason came 2nd here last year and should do
well again, whilst Wardle and District came 5th and will
also put up a good showing. Three other bands that appeared
in the finals last year return hoping to do better, with Stourport
on Severn who came 9th, Norwest Brass 2000 who came 11th
and Boarshurst who came 10th hoping for better things.
Timperly who won the 4th Section title here last year
move up a section and should be hoping for a repeat of their triumph.
Of the others Audley came 3rd in their region,
beating Malvern Hills (10th) and Whaley Bridge (4th),
whilst Lympstone came 4th and St. Brewards came
10th in South West. Ebbw Vale came 6th
in Wales, whilst The Friendly Band came home 9th in Yorkshire.
As for Eatons Farnsworth and Pilling Jubilee we havent
much of an idea sorry.
4BR Prediction:
Fairly straight down the line for us this time with the winners
we think coming from the group that were in Preston, with Linda
Nicholsons band popping in there and the rest coming from
the bunch that have been here before. A bit predictable?
Bet you we get a more than a few wrong?
