Second Section review:

This is a bit harder for us to try and predict, but there are four bands who performed very well at the recent National Finals who should be earmarked as pre match favourites to take the title, as three of them also filled the rostrum at this contest last year.

City of Bristol under the baton of Welshman Bryn James were fine runners up at the Nationals and 3rd here last year, whilst Towcester Studio and Adele Sellers were 3rd in Preston and runners up here.   The 4th placed band at Preston were Knottingly Silver who didn’t compete at Prestatyn in 2000, whilst Tintwistle who came 9th at Preston won this section last time out.   These bands for us should be scrapping it out amongst themselves for the top prizes.

Below that it’s a bit more difficult, but 9 bands who took part last year are back to have another go, with 7th placed United Norwest Coop Milnrow, 8th placed Wantage Silver, 9th placed Hopkinson Solicitor Blidworth, 9th placed Mostyn and Beswick 11th placed Chalford, 12th placed Elland, 13th placed Hoover Bolton, 14th placed Stannington Brass and 16th placed Royal Buckley all hoping for better things in 2001.

Of these perhaps Wantage who came 3rd and also Weaver Group at their Areas, Hopkinson Solicitors Blidworth who came 5th at theirs and Elland who came 8th are in with a shout.   Of the others we must mention are Skelmersdale who won the Third Section at Pontins last year and who came 6th at their Area and Meltham and Meltham Mills who came 5th.

The two Welsh bands are also in with a shout if they play to form as they too have performed well in the past, with Markham (4th) and Rhyl Silver (3rd) hoping to do well.

The rest are a bit of a muchness for us with Barrow who came 7th at the Area, BMP Europe Goodshaw (14th), Delph (9th), Greenhalls (10th), Walkden (7th) and Jersey Premier (Dnc) as the outsiders.

4BR Prediction:

The top four should be clear-cut, but there could well be a surprise or two a bit further down.

Towcester Studio
City of Bristol
Knottingly
Tintwistle
United Norwest Co-op Milnrow
Elland
