Sellers Youth kept busy for Xmas

27-Dec-2004
The Youth Band of Sellers International have been a busy lot this festive season.

The Sellers International Youth Band have been busy over the Festive Period.

The highlights were two very well received concerts at St. Paul's Hall with the Honley Ladies Choir (12th December) and at Huddersfield Town Hall (the band's first concert appearance at Huddersfield's most prestigious venue)with the Huddersfield Methodist Choir (18th December).

2004 has been a successful year for them with 1st Prize at the Huddersfield based Mrs Sunderland Competition, 2nd Prize at the Youth in Brass Competition held in October at Slaithwaite Leisure Centre (where the band also picked up the prize for the best hymn tune and the best principal cornet went to Joe Murray) and the award for the 'Most Promising Youth Band' at the National Youth Brass Band Championships held in April at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

The band now has a number and members who have gained places in the National Youth Brass Band and the National Childrens Brass Band.

In February the Sellers Youth Band will be making their first appearance at the Action Research UK Youth Entertainment Championships, held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. They are also looking forward to returning to the National Youth Championships to be held at the RNCM in April and, in June, competing at the inaugural British Open Youth Championships, to be held at the Pontins Holiday Resort in Prestatyn, North Wales. The band also has a prestigious concert engagement at York Minster on the 2nd May.

The band is always looking for new members of any standard. In addition to the main youth band, there is now a Training Group, directed by Sellers International Band cornetist Dave Morton, for beginners and less advanced young brass players. For more information please contact Paul Smith on 01484 301359.
