Death of Pleasley stalwart
25-Apr-2012The death has been announced of Pleasley Colliery soprano player Vic Eyre.
Pleasley Colliery Welfare Band has reported the death of soprano player Vic Eyre.
Vic started playing in Kirkby Collieries Junior Band in the early 1950s on tenor horn before moving onto cornet with Kirkby Old Band.
He enjoyed a long association with the Teversal /Blidworth Colliery Band before moving to Newstead Band and finally at the age of 70, playing with Pleasley Colliery Welfare Band.
Fine player and gentleman
Pleasley MD Keith Buxton told 4BR: "Vic had a reputation as a fine player and a first class bandsman. He was one of bandings true gentlemen and will be greatly missed by his many friends within the banding community."

Funeral
The funeral of Vic Eyre will be held at Mansfield Crematorium on Friday 4th may at 2.00pm.
As stated previously the family have asked for a band for the funeral. If anybody is interested in playing will they please let Keith Buxton know as soon as possible on 07828615481 or e-mail
A rehearsal will be held for the funeral at Pleasley Miners Welfare at 8.00 on Tuesday evening.
