World Rankings: July update

No change at the top but Fairey return to the top ten.

Fairey Band


Fairey (Geneva) Band makes a dramatic return to the top ten in the latest World of Brass—4barsrest.com Rankings following its victory at the recent English National Brass Band Championships at Preston, the Stockport-based band’s first major win since the 2003 National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.

Other upwardly-mobile bands are Reg Vardy and Skelmanthorpe, which both performed well at Preston, and Whitburn and Kingdom Brass, following their appearances in the Final of the West Lothian Festival.

Eurobrass — won by Provincial Brass Band Groningen
Queensland Championships — won by Brisbane Brass
Battle of the Bands — won by Dronfield

Note that results for the recent New Zealand Championships are not included in this latest rankings release.

The next update will follow September’s British Open Championships, at which 14 of the current top-20 bands will be trying to make an impression on the Defending Champion’s massive lead in the rankings.

Cheshire Constabulary Band

March 22 • We are still looking for a Tenor Horn, Cornet and snare drummers (for our Corps of drums). Smart friendly well run band with varied engagements, just one rehearsal a week. Open to all walks of life (you do not need to work for the Police!)

The Pemberton Old Wigan DW organisation are holding auditions for the position of Conductor for their B band. The band is currently well placed in the 2nd section North West area and are looking for an ambitious and forward looking candidate who can take the band forward. No time wasters please.
