YBS announce Ben Tubb as their new composer in residence.

YBS

The YBS Band has announced that Ben Tubb has been appointed as their new composer in residence.

Young age

Ben was born in Portsmouth, but quickly relocated to West London. He was introduced to music at a young age by both his grandfather and his mother. He started his musical career at the age of 12 at a local boy's brigade quickly taking up the cornet and joining a local youth band.

At the age of 15 he took up the tenor horn and auditioned for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, enjoying 6 courses under the leaderships of Elgar Howarth and Bramwell Tovey.

Ben's works have been performed internationally and was the featured composer in the inaugural Ohio Brass Festival in 2007 where several of his compositions and arrangements were premièred4BR

Study

After passing all his A-Levels Ben secured a place at the Royal Northern College of Music to study Tenor Horn with Lesley Howie and composition with Paul Patterson, Adam Gorb and Mary Bellamy, being awarded the Sellers Scholarship upon entering. He is currently in his second year.

Commissions

Since his move to Manchester, Ben has received numerous commissions, including commissions for David Childs, the University of Sheffield, the Freckleton Band, a tuba solo to be performed in America and a Wind Fanfare for the RNCM.

International performances

On top of this, Ben's works have been performed internationally and was the featured composer in the inaugural Ohio Brass Festival in 2007 where several of his compositions and arrangements were premièred.

Well received

In early 2008, Ben joined the YBS Band, and his compositions have been well received, with the band providing the World Première of 'Through A Film Lens' at a recent concert in Morley. He looks forward to many more performances of his works.

Morgan and the band are looking forward to working with Ben on lots of new and inovative projects, which reflects Ybs bands continued embracing of new repertoire and championing talented young composers work.
