Cornish assault on Whit Friday

St Austell Band are currently putting the final touches to their forthcoming appearance at the Whit Friday contests.

St Austell

The St Austell Town Band are currently preparing for their debut at this year's Whit Friday March contests.

New experience

For most of this young band it will be a totally new experience and they are eagerly looking forward to competing at some of the well known venues on the competition circuit. They haven't even been put off by the very early start — 4:30am on Friday 16th May to load the coach before they head North!!

Travelling with the band will be 25 supporters who will cheer them along in their bid to make a mark amongst the some of the best bands in the country.

Preparations for the visit started earlier in the year when Dr Roy Newsome, alongside his leadership of the band at the West of England Area4BR

Early preparations

Preparations for the visit started earlier in the year when Dr Roy Newsome, alongside his leadership of the band at the West of England Area, also invited them to perform at a concert which he had organised in Bury Parish Church, over the Whit weekend.

The concert will take place on Saturday 17th May and will feature a mix of music with West Country connections and some items with the Church's newly refurbished organ. Conducting the concert will be the band's resident musical director, Aaron Harvey along with Dr Newsome.
