The Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen Band has welcomed a quartet of new players to the ranks – all of whom made their debuts at the recent SEWBBA Contest in Ebbw Vale.

Trom and cornets

Nils Richards joins on principal trombone from Lewis Merthyr after completing his studies at Cardiff University, whilst Deian Williams strengthens cornet section, joining on the front row from Llanrug.

Deian is currently coming to the end of his first year in Trinity St David University, Carmarthen studying for an Early Years Education degree.

Also joining on the solo cornet bench is Rhydian Griffiths. Rhydian is currently studying Sports & Physical Education at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Finally, James Lawlor comes in on soprano cornet. James is currently a pupil at Ysgol Tregib where he is studying for his A Levels.

In September James will take his place at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama studying for a music degree.
