Death of Haydn Radford

The death has been reported of one of Welsh banding's pioneering administrators.

4BR has been informed of the death of Haydn Radford, one of Welsh banding's leading administrators during the 1970's and 1980's. He was 88.

Brass bands

The entire Radford family were involved in local brass bands, notably Rhymney Workmen's Band who became the well known and accomplished Hymac (Rhymney) Works Band during a period of sponsorship by the firm where he was a long serving senior manager.

He was one of the leading administrators on the Welsh Regional Committee for many years and took a leading role in the organisation of the European Brass Band Championships when they were held in Wales.

His other love was for pigeon racing, where he gained a widespread respect for his many coveted race and breeding successes.
