Thoresby set for 9/11 role

Thoresby Colliery Band is set to perform at London's official Ceremony of Remembrance for the 9/11 atrocities.

Thoresby

Thoresby Colliery Band will be performing in London in a week’s time at the official Ceremony of Remembrance to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 atrocities in America in 2001.

Music

The band will provide a programme of music throughout the day's events, including processional and accompanying music to the official Ceremony of Remembrance.

The televised event, which takes place on Sunday September 11th, at the Memorial Garden in Grosvenor Square in London, will be attended by families and friends of the victims who lost their lives.

Third time

Thoresby played for the official opening of the Memorial Garden back in 2003 where the impression they made was so great that the organisers of the official remembrance event the following year immediately invited the band to attend and provide music, travelling down from its base in Nottinghamshire.

In 2007 the band also performed in Regent"s park at the country's official memorial event remembering the victims of the July 7th bombings in London.

The band is privileged to be invited for the third time to provide music for the country's national remembrance event. It is a real honour for usChairman, George Kennedy

Privilege

Band Chairman George Kennedy told 4BR: "The band is privileged to be invited for the third time to provide music for the country's national remembrance event. It is a real honour for us.

We have carefully selected a suitable programme of music for the day and each and every one of the band is looking forward to delivering another high class performance as our own mark of respect to the victims."

The band will be conducted on the day by its resident conductor Dave Purkiss.
